A consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2005, Mr Houlihan-Burne
qualified form St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Imperial College in
1995. His Orthopaedic training took place in London with specialist and
fellowship training in knee and sports injury surgery at Chelsea and
Westminster Hospital and the Jonathan Webb Clinic, Bristol. He is a member
of the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Association for
Surgery of the Knee (BASK) and the British Association for Sports and
Exercise Medicine (BASEM). Mr Houlihan-Burne has experience in all aspects
of knee reconstructive surgery and is one of the UK and European lead
surgeons in developing a rapid recovery protocol following hip and Knee
replacement surgery.
Special
Interests
Mr Houlihan-Burne has particular interests in cartilage regeneration,
arthritis in the young patient and kneecap (patellofemoral) problems. He
performs cartilage transplantation both on the NHS and in private practice
and well as ligament reconstruction (anterior and posterior Cruciate),
osteotomies, and partial and total knee replacements.
Working out of Bishops Wood Hospital, Northwood and The Chiltern
Hospital, Great Missenden, Bucks he provides a complete outpatient and
inpatient service to patients with problem knees.
Mr Houlihan-Burne lectures to national and international audiences on
rapid recovery programmes following hip and knee replacement as well as
techniques in ligament reconstruction and partial knee replacement
surgery.
Outside work, he maintains a career as a competitive triathlete and
road runner.
